You are correct, Tyler. For whatever reason when I searched hockeyfights.com while writing this post, I didn’t get anything for Schultz: the most likely thing is that I made a typo. Thank you for clarification (and don’t ever worry about nitpicking - I’d rather be right than anything else).

I hate to nitpick, but Schultz has been in 2 fights.

1 fight in the WHL in 04-05, an another in Hershey in 06-07.

I’d fear for Della Rovere if he fought Carlson, just because of the size differential.

I have to admit that I personally am starting to get nervous that Huet has not been signed because there don’t seem to be any other quality options out there. I doubt Washington has any real interest in Emery - Johnson was at least as good last year and doesn’t have any baggage.

1) Any of you getting abit nervous about Huet? We suppose no news is good news but the closer we get to 7/1, the lower the odds of him staying inour opinion. (Ottawa)
2) Anyone else fear a ray Emery ‘boobie prize’ is possible?

In my post-season post on defensemen I had Schultz at #4 on the depth chart, ahead of Eminger, Pothier, Jurinca and Erskine and I had him as one of the defensemen “exceeding expectations” at the midseason point. In a post about the new year I said, “Sarge has been looking smarter and more comfortable almost by the game and is close to becoming a very solid backline presence. Schultz has also taken some heat for not being physical enough given his size (6′5”, 215) and the nature of his game. I don’t think it’s that Schultz won’t initiate contact, I think it’s that he doesn’t want to draw himself out of position trying to deliver a big hit. As he become more aware and more confident in his own end watch for his physical game to improve as well.”

Statisically, he’s all over the place: lots of blocked shots and a great +/-, but also too few hits and more than twice as many giveaways as takeaways.

Bottom line - he’s very good for his age, especially given his size, but there’s certainly room for improvement.

You really ought to stop bashing Jeff Schultz, his stats are good, he’s good positionally and there are some occassional flashes of physical play. Can’t wait till next season. LETS GO CAPS!!!!
