I think Emery is a definite possibility should Huet not re-sign. It's going to be a tricky situation - the Capitals should be able to open their wallet and he seemed to like playing in D.C. down the stretch but he will also probably be the consensus best goalie available this summer, so he he might want to wait it out and see what kind of offers he gets.

If Huet does go somewhere else, what other options do the Capitals have? Jose Theodore had a decent year and will be a UFA, but after that there are no clear number ones in the free agent market. Additionally, there aren't any guys like Kiprusoff or Bryzgalov around - guys who were backups but clearly good enough to be #1's If Huet and Theodore fall through, Emery is at least worth considering.

1) We believe that Towes would have won the Calder easily had he stayed healthy. Kane will probably win it because of the 'more goals' factor
2) We see you mentioned ray Emery. We got lampooned on the Japersrink blog earlier this morning for suggesting this as a possibility should Huet not resign. Its probably not plan A or B, but it may be the only option if things don't fall into place
3) As for the Caps defense next season. Erskine and Jurcina already are signed to one-way deals next year. Unless one is traded they will be back next fall. Pothier is probably done. Eminger was probably he most healthy defender in the playoffs so he looked good as a result. He deserved a better fate this past season. McPhee has quite a few decisions to make over the next couple of months!
